Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

Be willing to be uncomfortable. Be comfortable being uncomfortable. It may get tough, but it’s a small price to pay for living a dream.”

- Peter McWilliams

I have learned that whenever I make a change in my life I will be uncomfortable. I am adapting and learning how to “be comfortable being uncomfortable.” NO matter what change you want to make in your life, either personal or professional, it will be uncomfortable. It is uncomfortable because to grow you need to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. If you want to lose 5 lbs, or learn a new skill, change jobs or travel it is going to be uncomfortable. I have learned that if I really want to achieve my dreams or goals I will need to push through the discomfort to see results.

We all program ourselves with a comfort zone. It feels good. It is familiar. We can do our comfort zone without any thinking, it's automatic. But, when we do the same thing day in and day out we do not grow or learn or change. If you wake up the same way every day. If you go to work the same way, do the same work, see the same people, come home make dinner and watch a bit of TV before bed; to wake up and repeat the next day, you will not grow. Sure, you maybe comfortable with the routine, who wouldn't be? It is familiar and predictable. But are you living your best you? We rob ourselves of new experiences and living life to its fullest.

There will be a discomfort to experience change, growth and something new. Being uncomfortable is a price that I am willing to pay to live my dreams.

Sometimes when we step out of our comfort zone amazing things happen!

I'm often reminded of the movie "Yes Man" with Jim Carrey. His character is convinced that if he says "YES" to life he will only attract good things. In a way that's how I feel. Not that life if filled with only good experiences. But, when I say "YES" to life I sure do live a lot more life than when I say "NO". How would your life change if you decided to say "YES" to new experiences.

How would your life change if you accepted that being uncomfortable means that you are growing? Have you ever tried something new and you weren't sure how it would turn out. You were nervous and uncomfortable in this new experience. But, you stuck with it and you grew from it or it changed your life? Maybe you took an odd college course that you fell in love with and changed your major. Perhaps you changed your diet and exercise pattern and lost weight and felt amazing. Or you broke up with a person you had been with along time to then find a the love of your life.

Don't let being uncomfortable hold you back from living your best life!
