6 Simple Steps To Changing Your Life
Updated: Jan 24, 2020
"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new." - Socrates
Do you want to change your life? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Do you desire to have a more fulfilling life? Are you ready to live your best life?
You change your life is by looking ahead toward the future and stop looking behind you at your past. It doesn't matter what you want to change in your life, your career, your health, or your lifestyle. You will always need to take steps to get where you want to go.
Here are six steps to help you on your path of change.
1. Empowering Beliefs
Most people are held back by their limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs are those nagging negative thoughts you have about yourself, self-defeating ideas that disempower you. It doesn't matter how many goals you set if you don't believe you can achieve them; you never will.
*Notice negative thoughts: First is to notice your patterned thoughts and self-talk. If you are speaking more harshly to yourself than you would to a stranger, then you are stuck in disempowering ideas.
*Replace with Empowering thoughts: Once you identify the negative beliefs holding you back, you can then replace them with empowering beliefs that will propel you toward your goals.
*For example; If you think, "I'm not good enough to get the promotion." Notice the negative thought and introduce a different idea to your subconscious, "I am capable and talented to achieve anything I set my sights to."
If you believe it, you can achieve it!
2. Listen to Your Instinct
How do you know what you want? There are so many choices, what is the right choice for you? When was the last time you asked yourself, "What is the right direction for my life?" So many times we go in the direction our parents or society tell us. When we live our life for others, we run the risk of feeling lost and disconnected to our authentic self.
A few simple techniques will help you quiet the chattering mind and get intuned with the instincts that guide you.
*Meditation: Meditation is a way to quiet the mind and allow us to hear our inner voice.
Sit in a quiet place.
Close your eyes.
Focus on your breath.
Notice the rise and fall of your breath.
Do this daily for 5-10 min.
*Walking In Nature: The constant distractions in our modern world can drown out our instincts.
Take a walk by yourself in a park or hiking trail.
Don't listen to any music or podcasts.
Pay attention to the thoughts that pop into your mind.
*Journal: Get your ideas on to paper and out of your head.
Daily journal about the daydreams you imagine about yourself.
Write down all of your wishes and dreams you have.
Write in the present tense, as if it is already happening.
*Example: 'Today I toured a Vinyard in Tuscany, Italy and drank wine on the veranda."
3. Clear Vision
Getting crystal clear on what you want is a key element. A vision of whom you want to become, what career you want, how much money you want to make, what kind of relationships you want to have, and the ideal health you are striving for are the end goals to which you frame your life around.
*Be Specific: Write down in DETAIL the vision you see for your future. "More money." could be $1 or $1,000,000.
"Lose weight." could be 1lbs or 50lbs.
*Visualize: Close your eyes and see yourself when you have achieved your goal. See what your wearing, where you are. Notice how you feel now that you have reached your goal.
*Keep the vision where you can see it: Make a vision board, mind map, or mood board and put it where you see it daily. Out of sight, out of mind. Keep your vision for your future at the forefront of your mind.
4. Get a Plan
Just like using a road map to get from point A to point B, you need a plan of action to reach your goals. Without a plan, you will waste time, lose focus, and eventually give up on your dreams. A solid plan will help you take steps toward your ideal life goals. A goal without a plan is just a wish, and wishes don't always come true.
*Start with the end in mind: Start to map out HOW you will reach your goal by beginning with the ending and work your way back.
*Mini goals along the way: Create milestones you will need to reach along your path. Hitting each milestone will inspire you to keep making progress toward your dream.
*Measurable Progress: All of your large and small goals should be measurable and clear. "Be healthier." is too vague, instead use "Lose 5 lbs."
It takes courage to change, to try something new. It takes bravery to overcome self-doubt. To improve is to put one's self out there, to show up, and to take a leap of faith. You have the courage within you to take the steps needed for you to achieve your goals.
*What is your WHY: To waken the lion within us to do daring things, we must identify WHY we are doing them. If your why is big enough, you will find your courage to step out and show up. List out all of the reasons WHY you want this dream. How will your life be changed by reaching this dream?
*Worst-case scenario: Take the power away from the fear by facing the worst-case scenario. Write down all of the possible outcomes and how you would deal with each one. This will limit your fears and strengthen your self-confidence.
6. Take Action
How do you change your life and achieve your dreams? By taking one step at a time. Nothing happens without massive action. Without action, your dreams will remain dreams. Ideas only become a reality when you take action toward them. No one is going to do the work for you. No one is going to take action to help you get what you want. You are solely responsible for your life. If you sincerely wish to have the life of your dreams, then you will have to work for it.
*Make it a priority: Set a specific time each day that you can focus on making steps toward your goal. Treat your dream as a job. Show up and do the work!
*Give 100%: The harder you work toward your goals, the quicker you will see the results. If you only put in 10% of the effort, you will only see 10% of the results.
